April 27- I'm Down With The Dog.

Today, I headed over to the HYPER to do some Power Yoga. Due to the fact that I am an avid yoga-er and the instructor was normally a kickboxing instructor, it was a bit different that I'm used to. However, my limbs will be sore for days regardless.

April 26- I-kool-a

Ikea is some place that everyone should go at least once, regardless of their interest in home decor. Today, as a fun day activity, I took my sisters on my very visit to Ikea, and it was amazing. So much cheap furniture! And my sisters even sampled a bag of who-knows-how-old crackers inside the "mock pantry". It was like being in a maze. A crazy huge maze full bedrooms.

April 25- Hrm.

I know I did something new today, and it was pretty cool. However, I cannot remember. This seems to be happening increasingly more often as of late. Apologies to all.

April 24- Saxy... Bari Saxy.

I held a saxaphone for the very first time today.
But don't expect any good tunes to come out of this any time soon- I just bribed this stranger to let me inspect his instrument and take my picture (to which he gave me a very strange look).

April 23- Getting The Upper Foot

This is a clear example of a busy day in which a new thing was completely forgotten.

So, at 10:30 P.M., I brushed my teeth on one foot.
It was quite the calf work out.

April 25- Crump-In-A-Box

Note: I know this is out of order. I am handi-capable.

Packing up for the end of school always makes for some interesting moments. Some of you might recall my birthday, where I got an unusually large package. (With Cailie inside!!!!!)Well, I saved the box, and today it became my new thing. I fit inside completely! It took me four times to re-adjust, but somehow I made it.

April 22-Earth Day Unplugged

Yay Earth Day! Next to Thanksgiving, this could be my favorite day of the year. I love getting that reminder to be more conscious with my choices and to connect more with nature. Today was such a great day, because I woke up to African Daisy seedlings!!! They magically sprung out from the dirt- and when I say magically, that's really the truth. It's only been 3 days since we planted them! It was a great Earth Day surprise.

Did you know that an appliance that is turned off still uses a small amount of energy when it's plugged in? Over time, this could mean ridiculous amount of energy being wasted over the course of one day, a month, and years of trickle energy. In an effort to pledge for greener energy consumption, I unplugged every appliance in my room, and sneaked my unplugging spree onto other people's rooms too.

April 21- Achtung! Optung!

Today I took a stand against junk mail. (I'm sure you will all appreciate this!) I went to www.optoutprescreen.com and removed my name from the list used by credit and insurance agencies to send me "offers". The U.S. is required to give everyone the option to opt out if they so choose, and you can do it for 5 years or for your entire life. I'll take any chance I can get to stop these agencies from sending me crap.

April 20- Scary

Today's new thing wasn't quite the most happy experience. I was involved in a full fledged neighborhood search for Chris, Pete's neighbor. This little boy had been doing homework outside, and his mother was in the other room on the phone. He came up missing soon afterwords, so we called the cops and had neighbors everywhere trying to find him. Thank goodness they found him... sleeping at his desk with a blanket over his head...? He must have been a very deep sleeper to not hear us screaming his name. It was quite traumatic.

April 19- Got Seeds?

Today I planted my own seeds for a miniature garden I'm going to attempt to grow. This will include cilantro, mint, daisies, and peppers. It was a blast, and I felt very proud to be part of something so rewarding. I planted about 20+ paper cups with individual seeds, and plan to transplant them outside when they have their first leaves. For now, I'll keep them well taken care of, and hope they make it! Also, because of Earth Day, seeds were buy one get one free, and dirt was 58 cents! Make sure you all plant a tree for Earth Day!!!!

April 18- Search the Skies

The other day, something crazy happened. A pilot died mid-flight, and a passenger (who had a little experience) landed the plane. Whole story here.

Not to say this would ever happen to me, but it's nice to know that if there is an emergency, I can at least find out some information using a Sectional Aeronautical Chart. This is a map especially for pilots that they use while flying to locate airports, elevation, locations, etc. Pete taught me how to read one today as my new thing, and it was surprisingly easier to grasp than it appeared. (Who knew that the air had its own freeways??)

Now, finding my way on a Utah map? That's another story.

April 17- Fine Arts Exploring Part 2

You would not believe it. Today, while taking some friends on another exploration in the piano caves, (click here) we took it step further.. After climbing more ladders and getting deeper inside the building, we stumbled upon a trapdoor on the ceiling. Reluctantly, Pete reached for the handle and suddenly, Incredible! It opened and we felt the cool night air and sounds of campus around us. We emerged in awe and wonder at the secret place called the Fine Arts Building Roof. So cool.

April 16- Contemporary Experimentation

Gloria Estefan sure got it right in her hit "Turn It Upside Down". Today, Pete and I took our sightreading abilities to new heights... by reading music upside down.

April 15- Monkeying Around

I called someone on the phone and talked in gorilla today. And though I imagined a lot of hysterical laughter and banana flinging, all that I got was a "Hello? Hello? Hello?" from the other person. However, it was still mildly entertaining on my side of the line.

April 14-Extra, Extra!

I have no idea how today's new thing came into fruition... only that, I wanted to be a mail delivery woman for a day. Not really, but I attempted to deliver yesterday's paper to a completely random house, via moving car. Don't ask me, I assumed it would be a good idea... (You hear me yell "dang it!" because it doesn't quite make it to the doorstep.)

April 13- Tax To The Max

Today I completed my taxes, for the first time ever.

April 12- Hairy Situation

Coming from a family with all girls, I know virtually nothing about sports, video games, boxers, aftershave, physicals, peeing standing up, fixing appliances, or facial hair.

Today, Pete graciously offered his moustache to teach me how to shave facial hair. It was a bit scary to operate a razor so close to someone's mouth, but I think I did alright. Thank you Pete for your generosity and trust!

April 11... Eggcelent.

It was bliss this year when my family cracked out the egg decorating for easter. I hadn't done this for years, and I was completely psyched to return to my childhood. And the best part- a SPARKLE KIT! I knew this glitter would soon become my new thing, but I didn't anticipate the sparkles to be expired. Instead of wet glitter mush, I pulled out a stretchy, dry taffy-like square of colored goo. But the show must go on! This is the result.

Jenelle, this egg is for you. I am so winning.

April 10- Please cater to my needs...

Today, for the first time ever, I learned how to do catering. Hamilton's Steak and Seafood hired me for their crew, and it was hard work! We covered a wedding reception, and I did everything from setting up tables, bussing drinks and dirty dishes, washing those dishes, vacuuming the stairs, setting up AGAIN, more bussing, more cleaning... you get the picture. And all of this in high heels (I couldn't find my flats!) Yeah, after walking up and down stairs for over 10 and a half hours, my calves better look like freakin rocks.

April 9- Ode to Odor

Sometimes, stink happens. Man stink, woman stink... you name it. It becomes a necessity to have a spare deodorant on hand in case of emergencies.

I had a stinky moment. In creative arts, and I can start to smell a strange odor coming from my armpits. I realized that I had not put anything on in the groggy hours of my awakening. Oh, Horror! So, I abandoned all social rules, and put on deodorant during class. Yes, I had people in front and behind me. Yes, Pete was yelling "What are you doing? PUTTING ON DEODORANT!?" I imagine that in a class of 400, about 20 people might have gotten a peek at my underarms. But it was nice to smell a (strong) hint of Spanish Rose wafting from my pits while learning about Stephen Foster.

April 7- Ya! Poh!

What to do when you are hosting couch surfer in town? Go out to eat, of course! Today we ate at Ya! Poh!- a CHILEAN RESTAURANT! It was really delicious, because it was all fresh, including the specialized bread he cooked right on the spot.

We got sandwiches and an empanada... so big! This was as big as an entire plate, as you can see.
... We did some pretty serious damage.

April 7- Steakout

Today, my dad taught me how to flavor and cook a steak. Can you believe I've eaten it for 20 years, and never made it on my own?

Also, I got my permanent retainer off today, and they replaced it with my first ever bottom retainer. Not quite as interesting, but still new!

April 6- Good Clean Fun

Five words:
Fun Inside Automatic Car Wash.

That's all I really want to divulge at this time. (Get your mind out of the gutter!)

Also, I got my first job at a Restraunt... catering!! I'm so happy.

April 5- Dwight: Who Put My Calculator In Jello?!?

Today, I put something in jello.

Unfortunately, no one was willing to sacrifice a calculator, so I had
to settle with this pig. Since it was from last year's new things, I figured it was appropriate.

And I think it would have worked out better, had the jello not expired in 1995...

The video is pretty hilarious.

April 4- Taste of Spring

Yeah, that's right. Sam's club was having a "taste of spring" sample day this weekend. So, Pete Simon and I ate an entire lunch of just food samples. It was madness! So many people there.

Also, we went hunting for gorilla art in the dark, and realized (too late) that it was extremely muddy at the site. Shoes were completely submersed in the sludge, and I got to add washing my shoes in the washing machine to my New.

April 3- Some Fun(ion)

Sometimes, when food is neglected, strange things happen. (I first noticed this when my potatoes grew "eyes" last year.) Last month, with the intent of cooking up a storm, I brought home at least 5 onions. I ended up with one secretly hidden onion that had green sprouts emerging like a strange head of hair. Puzzled, we stuck it in an empty pot and thought no more of it for weeks.
Today, I planted that onion, in hopes that it will someday sprout into a giant plant, and fill the apartment with that delicious B.O. smell.

April 2- Looking Back

If any of you know me, you will understand that my foods don't mix. Neither do they switch places. Breakfast is morning. Three meals a day. And, I very seriously condone eating hamburgers with pancakes in the same meal. So today, I dove through my comfort zone, and I ate my meals backwards.

Starting with Cafe Rio for "dinner", Potatoes for "lunch" (there's not really much I can do about the timing of lunch haha), and Waffles for "breakfast" (in my pajamas.) If only I could find a way to make everything else backwards...

There's nothing that is more fulfilling than eating a giant waffle like a mouse.

April 1- Multimillion fantasy life? priceless. ..(or about 35 million)

Window shopping with a twist? Today, Pete and I made our own online shopping carts, with things we can only wish to have. Check out what we would have bought, a total of

$35,836847
